The Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship was pleased to welcome Speaker John Boehner, former Speaker and current House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and former Speaker Dennis Hastert to Lexington on June 24, 2011 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Henry Clay becoming Speaker of the House. According to historians, Henry Clay shaped the Office into the influential position it is today. This historic conversation with three of the six living speakers was moderated by New York Times/CNBC political correspondent John Harwood. The event was co-sponsored with the Henry Clay Memorial Foundation and our partners Transylvania University and the University of Kentucky’s Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce. It capped off the inaugural Henry Clay Week and the 4th annual Student Congress.
